Melodically Challenged

The other day I was watching TV with my father and grand-father. There was a dance competition going on and the theme was 'Old is Gold'. There were some very nice sequences but what made me think was a discussion between my father and his father.

They were talking about how melodious the music used to be in earlier times, how the lyrics had some meaning and the songs resonated forever. And they still do. Today there are just songs that stay with you until the next big hit arrives. It's just popular music all around. No 'evergreen' stuff. You don't get that type of music anymore. Those were the days..................etc etc. Then I realised, yeah! they're so right. All the good stuff was made when I wasn't even born! Even with western music. Noone can seem to let go of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Iron Maiden, Metallica and the likes of them. The music is just too damn awesome! And if you compare it to what we have now, well there is no comparison actually, the genres are completely different. We have some pretty good stuff right now too, but the older stuff is, like my dad said, evergreen, and will remain so forever.
